SheepSwaps.com, launching in August 2000, is the Net's premier shopping, trade and auction site for women. Created with community-building features, easy-to-use controls and stylish appeal, SheepSwaps.com provides women with a tailored online community for selling, sourcing and swapping personal items, such as clothing, jewelry, baby furniture and more.
The idea of SheepSwaps.com came about during a conversation between co-founder Susie Massoud and her sister-in-law Ann Marie. They were discussing what could be done with a bracelet that Susie owned, but no longer needed. As a project, they decided to place the bracelet for auction on the Internet. However, the experience proved to be less that satisfying. The process of placing the bracelet up for auction was time consuming and confusing. In addition, the site itself was overcrowded with product categories, from car parts to comic books, making it almost impossible for them to find the bracelet once submitted. After combing through other similar Internet auction sites, they soon realized that most auction sites were geared towards the mass population, offering women-oriented product categories, but in a generic, all-for-one atmosphere.
Based on this experience, Susie and her husband George developed the concept of an elegantly-designed online destination, in which women can easily sell, find and trade items that they no longer want with other connected-women. This concept is the mission behind SheepSwaps.com.
SheepSwaps.com Services
- SheepSwaps provides women with a forum for product and service trading. For example, one woman may opt to trade 10 beanie babies for another women's placement of a vintage handbag.
- SheepSells is a standard auction where women can place items, such as clothes, jewelry, strollers and books, up for bid. Auctioneers set their own prices. SheepSwaps.com confirms that the seller's payment was received, the product was shipped as promised and that the buyer received the product that they were expecting.
- SheepDesires enables women to post a want ad for items that they are looking for, such as travel packages, automobiles, jobs and collectives. Sellers with a match can post a message, alerting the woman that they have the item that they're looking for.
