THE MERMEN PLAY A BENEFIT FOR THE BAYVIEW ARTPATCH Saturday, March 24th @ 12 Galaxies, San Francisco CA

San Francisco's narcotic surf rock masters, The Mermen, will perform Saturday, March 24th at 12 Galaxies, 2565 Mission St., San Francisco, to benefit the Bayview Artpatch. This event will mark the reunion, after an eight-year hiatus, of the bands founding members: Jim Thomas (guitar), Allen Whitman (bass) and Martyn Jones (drums). The band is well known for what the Village Voice described as "amazing, cascading waves of dreamlike sound'. David Fricke, of Rolling Stone described the Mermen's music as "an extreme brand of surf music; the trebly turbulent and black minor chord moods of guitarist Jim Thomas are like a rough ride on the icy seas of the mid-Atlantic. Hints of Dick Dale filter through the cracked sidewalk wave forms of Sonic Youth. Thomas sounds more like Neil Young at the wheel of the good ship Crazy Horse."

The Bayview Artpatch is an effort by artists in the SF Bay area to build a sculpture garden using reused, reclaimed and recycled materials. They are taking what was the site of broken down junk cars and are turning it into a beautiful space the whole community can share. The goal is to bring together the artists in the area and the residents of the neighborhood to create a safe and healthy place for everyone.

Come join the Mermen for an evening of atomospheric psychedelia to help the Bayview Artpatch. Come out and support the Artpatch, an effort by artists in the Bayview/Hunter's Point area to bring a little beauty to a long ignored and desecrated part of the city. We're planting seeds in strange places to see what pops up. Support our efforts and treat yourself to a night of great music.

The opening bands for the evening are: Cuatros Caminos (San Francisco), and The Extraordinaires (Philadelphia)

Doors 8:00 PM Admission $15.00
